Statue of Liberty

I was born in Iran. As a child, my family fled an unjust regime for a better life: freedom from persecution, economic opportunity, and safety. We made our home in the San Fernando Valley.

I now have the honor and privilege of representing my home in the California State Assembly. My story is one small tale in the mosaic of immigrant experiences from Plymouth Rock to Ellis Island.

Yesterday, our nation abandoned our cherished principles and embarrassed our ancestors who themselves fled tyranny for a just land.

I strongly condemn President Trump’s fear-fueled ban on immigrants from any country or religion.

We are better than this.
