Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian and Senator Scott Wilk are holding two scholarship contests for the 2017 California Armenian Legislative Caucus’ commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. California high school students in 9th through 12th grade are invited to participate in an essay contest and/or a visual arts contest to increase greater awareness of the Armenian Genocide on its anniversary. The visual arts scholarship is a joint venture between the California Armenian Legislative Caucus and the California Arts Council.

(Sacramento)- The California Legislative Jewish Caucus condemns President Trump’s reported orders to build a wall on the Mexican-American border and plan to block refugees from entering the United States.

As Jews we have seen this before. In 1939, the SS Saint Louis was turned away from the Port of Miami. More than one quarter of the passengers on the ship died in the Holocaust. Many immigrants entering the United States have fled incredible violence at home and are seeking a safe place for their families. The United States should never again repeat the mistakes of the past and should help these refugees instead of turning them away.

AB 796 Gives Families Continued Access to Autism Treatment Services

(Sacramento, CA) Today, Governor Brown signed Assembly Bill 796 authored by Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian (D-Sherman Oaks). AB 796 eliminates the sunset date on the insurance mandate for health plans and health insurers to cover evidence-based autism treatment services.

“This is a great victory for children and families that require autism services. I am proud of the work we have accomplished to ensure continued access,” said Assemblymember Nazarian.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – The Assembly Budget Committee approved the Assembly’s budget for the 2016-2017 fiscal year, setting the stage for final budget negotiations with the Senate and Governor Jerry Brown in the coming weeks leading up to the deadline to pass the state budget by June 15.

“This is a responsible budget for a stronger middle class,” said Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee.  “We have the largest reserves in over three decades along with targeted investments to fight poverty, improve early childhood care and education, expand access to higher education, and to build more affordable housing.”
