AB 1597 Goes to Full Assembly for Historic Vote

(Sacramento, CA) Today, AB 1597, the Divestment from Turkish Bonds Act, passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee, clearing the way for a historic vote to hold Turkey accountable for their continued denial of the genocide of 1.5 million Armenians.

“I am humbled and grateful for my colleagues in the Assembly for joining with me to fight for justice for the 1.5 million Armenian souls who perished in the Genocide,” stated Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian. “If Turkey continues to fund Armenian Genocide deniers they must be financially punished.”

Hollywood Tour Trouble

(Sacramento, CA) Today, the Tour Bus Safety Act (AB 25) passed Assembly Communications and Conveyance Committee by a vote of 13-0.  The bill now goes to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

(Sacramento, CA) The Every Kid Counts Act (AB 34) authored by Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian and Assembly Budget Chair Phil Ting and co-authored by Assemblymember Cristina Garcia passed the Assembly Higher Education Committee with a 9-3 vote on Tuesday, April 25th.

Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian and Senator Scott Wilk are holding two scholarship contests for the 2017 California Armenian Legislative Caucus’ commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. California high school students in 9th through 12th grade are invited to participate in an essay contest and/or a visual arts contest to increase greater awareness of the Armenian Genocide on its anniversary. The visual arts scholarship is a joint venture between the California Armenian Legislative Caucus and the California Arts Council.
