Assemblymember Nazarian Honors Those Lost in the Armenian Genocide
(Sacramento) – In 1915, the Ottoman government which ruled in what is now modern-day Turkey, began the systematic genocide of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians in their native land. Many of the survivors scattered all over the world, with large displaced Armenian populations settling in parts of California. California State Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian (D-Van Nuys), whose grandparents survived the horror, authored Assembly Joint Resolution 35 to ensure that we never forget. AJR 35 designates the week of April 20 to 26, 2014, as "California Week of Remembrance for the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923.” Watch this Assembly Access Video to learn more.
