California’s Year of Commemoration of the Centennial Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian (D-Van Nuys) and the Armenian Legislative Caucus introduced Assembly Joint Resolution (AJR 2) designating this year as California’s Year of Commemoration of the Centennial Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The resolution calls upon Congress and the President of the United States to recognize the Armenian Genocide.  “California is home to an estimated 1 million Armenians, many of whom are descendants of or are genocide survivors themselves,” said Assemblymember Nazarian. “We must reflect on their survival as a people, and bring attention to a dark and overlooked piece of international history.” In a show of solidarity for the centennial anniversary, AJR 2 has been jointly-authored by a majority of the Assembly, an unprecedented show of support from previous resolutions.
