California's Earthquake Brace + Bolt program offers homeowners up to $3,000 to help retrofit their homes in order to reduce potential damage from earthquakes.
Retrofitting makes a house more resistance to earthquake activity by bolting the house to its foundation and adding bracing around the perimeter of the crawl space.
The Brace + Bolt program has been expanded to the following ZIP codes: 90046, 90068, 91604, and 91601.
Houses that meet the criteria for the Earthquake Brace + Bolt program are typically:
- Constructed before 1979.
- Built on a level or low slope.
- Constructed with a 4-foot (or less) cripple wall under the first floor.
- Constructed with a cripple wall between 4 feet and 7 feet (requires an engineered solution).
- On a raised foundation.
