For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D-San Fernando Valley) announced today that he has been appointed by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon to serve as Assistant Majority Whip of the State Assembly. As Assistant Majority Whip, Assemblymember Gabriel will work closely with Speaker Rendon and his leadership team to formulate and advance the Assembly Democratic Caucus’ legislative priorities.

Assemblymember Gabriel said, “I’m grateful to Speaker Rendon for the opportunity to serve as Assistant Majority Whip, and look forward to working with my colleagues to advance our agenda. As part of the Assembly Leadership, I will work hard to ensure that the Legislature prioritizes the issues impacting our community and that the west Valley gets its fair share of state resources and transportation funding.”

Assemblymember Gabriel was also appointed to the Assembly Banking and Finance Committee, the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee, and the Local Government Committee.

Prior to joining the Legislature, Assemblymember Gabriel worked as a constitutional rights attorney and sued the Trump Administration in two high-profile cases involving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Through his legal work and legislative advocacy, Gabriel also has assisted Holocaust survivors, victims of domestic abuse, and communities facing hate-motivated violence, and helped to resolve complex business disputes. From 2008 to 2010, Gabriel was a senior advisor to former United States Senator Evan Bayh.

A committed environmentalist and longtime community activist, Gabriel previously served on the boards of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. He lives in Encino with his wife Rachel Rosner, an affordable housing attorney, and their sons Ethan and Joshua.
