SACRAMENTO, CA — Yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed Assembly Bill (AB) 2746, by Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D-Woodland Hills), which would have significantly strengthened oversight over state-funded homelessness programs, including by creating a framework for data collection to better track and evaluate programs receiving state funding. In recent years, California has invested billions of dollars to address the state’s severe housing and homelessness crisis, yet homelessness has continued to increase significantly in many communities across the state.

SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law Assembly Bill (AB) 3308, by Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D-Woodland Hills), which empowers school districts in California to utilize low-income housing tax credits to construct affordable housing for teachers and school employees on district-owned land. The legislation also clarifies that local governments can work collaboratively with school districts to build affordable housing for their employees as well as members of the general public.

The appropriately-numbered Assembly Bill (AB) 2026, authored by Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D-San Fernando Valley), would enhance public safety planning, coordination, and resources to ensure a safe and fun environment for all World Cup events in California. The legislation also would bolster efforts to combat human trafficking, which can increase around major international sporting events like the World Cup.
