Assembly Bill Would Strengthen State’s Water Conservation Tools

Against the backdrop of impending wildfire season and 2021 being the second driest year for California on record, the California State Assembly approved legislation by Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D - Woodland Hills) that will incentivize installing drought-tolerant landscaping. That landscaping is seen as a key tool to combat California’s worsening drought and increase water conservation.

Bill That Expands Scope of Illegal Street Racing Passes Assembly

A bill that would expand the scope of the ban on illegal street races in California passed the Assembly on Monday.

Assembly Bill 2000, authored by Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel (D-Woodland Hills), would crack down further on illegal street racing, as well as similar “sideshows” and other non-legal events. Specifically, illegal street racing would be expanded beyond highways and streets. Under AB 2000, they would also now be illegal to do in off street parking lots.

Hundreds of Volunteers Gather for First Annual Day of Service

Nonprofit organizations centered in the West San Fernando Valley received a boost from hundreds of people on Sunday, April 3, during a “day of service.”

They gathered during the early morning at Pierce College and had a variety of projects to select from. The first large service event since the pandemic began, organized by the office of Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D-Woodland Hills), brought large teams of volunteers by partnering with Valley organizations.

On Wednesday, a bill that would have the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) create new hate crime training measures for law enforcement officers was passed unanimously 8 to 0 by the Assembly Public Safety Committee.

I’m writing to you from Sacramento, where the State Legislature has recently reconvened. We are facing interesting circumstances in the State Capitol, with remote witness testimony and committee hearings being held on the floor of the Assembly Chamber to allow for physical distancing. Despite these challenges, we are continuing to press forward with our legislative agenda and working hard to deliver the best possible constituent services.
